Huawei's Flagship P40 Pro+ Is Pushing The Limits Of What A Smartphone Camera Can Do

Gambar
© Screenshot: Huawei Screenshot: Huawei Huawei typically likes to use its P-Series phones as a vessel to show off its fancy new camera tech. With the loss of Google services, and a growing range of bans on its products in international markets the latest P-Series phone needs to be extraordinary. If the new features on the P40 (particularly the P40 Pro+) are any indication, people with access to Huawei's phones are in for a treat. Similar to Samsung's Galaxy S20 line, the P40 line is split between three different models: the standard P40, the P40 Pro, and the P40 Pro+, with the latter being the only one to feature all of Huawei's new tech. That means not only does the P40 Pro+ come with a 50-MP primary wide-angle camera, a 40-MP ultra-wide Cine Lens, an 8-MP 3x telephoto lens, and a 3D time-of-flight camera, the Pro+ also gets another 8-MP 10x optical zoom lens. And when those two zoom lenses are combined, Huawei claims it has created the world's...

The shutdown of US wireless carriers' stores amid the coronavirus pandemic will disrupt consumer smartphone upgrade cycles

Gambar
The major US wireless carriers announced new operations that will see many brick-and-mortar locations shut down amid the coronavirus pandemic. Verizon will reduce store hours and cut staffing headcounts by half, though it has committed to paying employees for any shifts lost as a result. AT&T announced it would close 2,200 stores, representing 40% of nationwide locations, and reduce operating hours at other locations. T-Mobile and Sprint took more aggressive measures, shutting down 80% and 71% of retail locations, respectively; T-Mobile also reduced the operating hours of its stores that will remain open. These measures are intended to protect employees and adhere to social distancing guidelines for limiting the spread of the coronavirus, which has infected over 10,000 people in the US across all 50 states, per The New York Times.   The store closures will slow the rate of phone upgrades, as many US consumers are likely to forgo buying new phones altogether ...

See inside anything with a $32 wireless camera that connects to your smartphone

After hosting a big sale last week on a popular wireless borescope inspection camera, Amazon has another sale going this week on a model that's even better for some uses. It's called the Depstech NKJ-66 and it has a similar design with a camera on the end of a semi-rigid tube that can be snaked into just about anything to see inside. We cover Depstech's wireless borescope cameras all the time when they go on sale because our readers love them so much. In fact, they're easily among the most popular smartphone accessories we cover here on the BGR Deals team. The first smartphone with 144Hz display is here

Gambar
Nubia Gaming smartphones have led the push towards higher refresh rates in the last year or two, with the feature now available on mainstream flagship devices. But Nubia still thinks there's room for improvement, as it's announced the Red Magic 5G. The latest device in Nubia's gaming-focused line offers a 144Hz refresh rate that bests the 120Hz rate seen on recent Samsung and Asus phones. Furthermore, the phone also packs frame-rate interpolation tech to artificially boost content to 144 frames per second. Otherwise, the Red Magic 5G offers a 6.65-inch FHD+ AMOLED panel with slim bezels and an in-display fingerprint sensor. The best gaming phones also feature extra inputs, and the Red Magic 5G features two capacitive shoulder keys akin to the Asus ROG Phone series at first glance. It's a little disappointing that we don't see physical buttons here, but it should still be handy for emulators, shooters, and other games. Other gaming additions include "4D vibratio...

Huawei P40 smartphone series teased with an image of the camera bump

Gambar
Huawei has dropped its first teaser for the flagship smartphone of the year, Huawei P40. The teaser comes in the form of an image on the company's own website. The image not just confirms the name of the smartphone series but also shows what looks like a massive camera bump. However, what is confirmed is that there could be more than one smartphone since the text in the teaser image clearly states 'Huawei P40 Series'. Last year we saw Huawei launching the P30, P30 Pro and even the P30 Lite in select countries. This year too the series may include three smartphones. From the rear camera bump seen in the image, it is difficult to say if the setup will be a traditional long, capsule shaped one or the rather new square-ish one. The image confirms the launch date of the P40 smartphone series as March 26, 2020. Samsung moves smartphone production to Vietnam amid virus

Gambar
SEOUL, March 9 (UPI) -- Samsung Electronics has temporarily moved its production of smartphones to Vietnam after closing its South Korean plant due to the new coronavirus, COVID-19. The world's largest smartphone maker said Monday it had shut down and quarantined its Gumi factory, about 125 miles southeast of Seoul, over the weekend. During the past few weeks, six Samsung employees at Gumi tested positive for COVID-19, prompting the tech giant to shutter its plant three times. Gumi is located just north of Daegu, the epicenter of South Korea's virus outbreak. As the disruption continued, the company opted for the relocation of production. Its Gumi factory has mostly churned out premium products, including the Galaxy S20 series, the Galaxy Note 10 and the Galaxy Z Flip. Samsung is running two major smartphone factories at Bac Ninh and Thai Nguyen provinces in Vietnam, which account for about half of the firm's global production. The company said its Gumi plant wil...

This app will let you use your smartphone to pay tolls on a dozen Virginia roads

Gambar
The app is the first of its kind in Virginia, which has significantly grown its network of toll roads in the past decade. Similar apps across the country offer drivers the option to check toll rates and make payments, generally after taking the trip. Industry leaders say they anticipate apps such as GoToll, which can essentially replace a toll transponder such as E-ZPass, may be the future of tolling. "Mobile apps to pay tolls are here and certainly will grow in the near future," said Bill Cramer, a spokesman for the International Bridge, Tunnel and Turnpike Association, which represents toll facility owners and operators. Toll operators across the country are looking into developing their own apps, said Cramer, who estimates it will be another year or two before real growth is seen in mobile payments by individual toll operators. Transurban, which operates the Express Lanes on Interstates 95, 395 and 495 in Northern Virginia, launched the app last month, targeting travelers...

Samsung shifts some smartphone production to Vietnam due to coronavirus

Gambar
Samsung Electronics will shift part of its domestic phone production to Vietnam due to the fast spread of coronavirus in South Korea. The outbreak has forced frequent shutdowns of its home plant, causing disruption to premium smartphone production for the local market.  Samsung on Friday closed the smartphone plant in Gumi, the industry city in the south-eastern party of the country, as the number of confirmed cases of Covid-19 in the factory rose to six. The Gumi plant is near Daegu, the country's fourth-largest city, which is at the heart of the virus outbreak in South Korea. The company has been producing its latest flagship smartphone, the Galaxy S20, and new foldable phone, the Galaxy Z Flip, in Gumi, for domestic consumers. TCL debuts concept smartphone with flexible roll-out display

Gambar
Chinese electronics giant TCL has unveiled a pair of concept devices that use next-gen flexible display technologies — showcasing a possible future for mobile digital devices. TCL isn't a particularly well-known smartphone brand outside of China, but the Huizhou-based company acquired the rights to design and sell BlackBerry-branded phones back in 2016, though that licensing partnership ends later this year. It's worth noting that TCL has emerged as one of the top TV manufacturing brands in North America, with Roku serving as a major technology partner. But TCL is eager to push deeper into the smartphone realm and move beyond the "whitelabel" approach it used to release phones under the Alcatel and Palm brands. Glimpse of the future At CES 2020 in Las Vegas in January, TCL debuted a trio of new devices, including a 5G smartphone and a foldable phone. These are pretty much good to go, though they are not yet available to buy. In the meantime, the co...

Xiaomi and OPPO followed Apple with annual sales of 126 million and 118.7 million, respectively. The worldwide smartphone market shrunk 1 percent last year, to 1.54 billion.
